When it comes to the powertrain, experts are saying the 2019 Equinox is not likely to change from 2018 model – not that it needs to. The standard 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine generates 170-horsepower and gets a decent fuel economy at 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. However, the 1.6-liter diesel engine get up to 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. But if performance is your main concern, the 2.0-liter four cylinder that generates up to 252 horsepower is your best option- providing robust acceleration and enough power to move a small trailer.
Having just received a complete redesign in 2018, the exterior of the 2019 Equinox is not likely to undergo any significant changes. However, tow new color options will be available to drivers to suit their preferences: a Pacific Blue Metallic and a Kinetic Blue Metallic. So, blue lovers can rejoice!
The infotainment system has been updated in a few different ways. For one, the surround vision camera is now an HD surround vision camera, offering a clearer, sharper image. The rearview camera is also an HD camera now too. Additionally, the 7-inch display MyLink infotainment system will be replaced with a newer Chevrolet system. The optional 8-inch infotainment system will be updated as well. As for other available features, the placement of USB ports has been reconfigured, as well as added ports for SD cards.
In 1LT and 2LT front-wheel drive models, the leather-wrapped shift lever is now being replaced with a more durable urethane cover. While a 12-volt power outlet will no longer be offered, LT trims will now be equipped with a multi-color driver instrument information which was previously monochromatic and more difficult to read.
New safety features offered by the Equinox include an adaptive full-speed cruise control system with start/stop system that turns the vehicle on and off as needed to conserve fuel. This system also allows you to change speeds and slow down as needed on the highway without ever needed to hit your brakes or accelerate. Front pedestrian braking is also included that stops the car for pedestrians automatically.
LT trims offer new package options that will improve driver safety and comfort. The LPO-level Interior Enhancement Package adds embroidered head rests and premium floor mats. The Confidence and Convenience Package adds rear cross traffic alert, lane change alert, blind spot monitoring and even heated power-adjustable outside mirrors.
A Driver Confidence II package adds lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, and low speed forward automatic emergency braking. The package also feature Intellibeam headlamps that adjust to light, a following distance indicator, and a safety alert seat. Last but not least is the upgraded infotainment system and a 120-volt power outlet.
The price is not yet available as of this time, and we probably won’t have a better idea until the vehicle goes into production in June. However, experts are speculating that it will be around the price of the 2018 Equinox which starts at $24,575 or the high-end range of around $38,295. Although it could be less with the removal of certain features included in the 2018 Equinox.
