The 4.3 liter ethanol V6 engine delivers a satisfying 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. This contributes to the vehicle's strong acceleration and towing capacity. In the SLT trim, an even better 5.3 liter V8 generates 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.
The GMC Sierra 1500 offers a decent fuel economy, getting 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Getting four wheel drive reduces these numbers, although minimally. The V8 gets 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway which is quite a bit of difference.
